Color + Thunder

Originally from Atlanta, Color + Thunder was created by Greer Ashton and Zach Beachum. Initially Ashton and Beachum were romantically linked to each other. When their romantic bond dissolved in 2014, the disintegration of their musical collaboration seemed inevitable.

Yet instead of fragmenting, the band transformed into an outlet, allowing them to deal with their differences. Later, the duo moved to Los Angeles, leaving Atlanta and what went before in the past.

Color + Thunder’s previous releases include two EPs, L.A.T.L. and The Manhattan, along with a number of singles. The duo’s third EP, Songs for the Sun and Songs for the Moon, drops on October 25.

As Ashton’s exquisitely menacing tones fill the breakdown, “I love the taste,” the music shivers with spine-chilling force.

“MEDS” opens on deep colors backed by ominous blaring horns flowing into a dark, muscular indie-rock melody riding a thick, potent rhythm rife with dense industrial crunch. Ashton’s wickedly sumptuous voice infuses the lyrics with femme fatale sensuality, tumescent with nuances of edgy timbres. When her tones soar on the chorus, the song takes on palpable sonic energy.

The rumbling, booming, vibrating texture of the harmonics pulses with a sense of scrumptiously earth-shattering imminence, primal and raw. As Ashton’s exquisitely menacing tones fill the breakdown, “I love the taste,” the music shivers with spine-chilling force.

The video, directed by Tessa Evelyn, brims with starkly austere images full of juxtaposing light and dark colors, along with viscous infinite grace. Supremely hypnotic, the combination of sound and visuals presses irresistibly. The figures in the video move to the emotion of the music – or perhaps the motion of the shapes generate the music.

“MEDS” is superb, exuding relentless sonic pressure traveling on the titanic hammerings of Hephaestus, crowned by the intoxicating voice of Greer Ashton.
