Right up front, know this is an earworm of a song – bewitching.

An album chock-full of authenticity, the album was produced by Gordy Quist and features the gifts of Austin’s most talented musicians – the Band of Heathens – along with the vocal ability of Kelsey Wilson of Wild Child & Sir Woman.

Inspired by a breakup, followed by entering the initial stages of a new relationship, Bird Mouth forms a memorial to lost love and a message of adoration.

Blending elements of alt-rock and Americana with faint tints of country-pop, “I Hope You Do” opens on platinum colors riding a potent, infectious rhythm. Sweeping sonic hues infuse the tune with sumptuous, flowing textures.

It’s one of those songs – once you hear it, you can’t get it out of your head.

Cory’s slightly rasping, haunting voice offers distinctive inflections, easy to listen to, yet eschewing effortless comparison to anyone else. Dreamy and at the same time, it exudes the alluring quality of Buddy Miller or Bob Dylan, pulling listeners in with magical timbres.

“Baby, tell me that you love me / We can do it all night long / I think you’re the one and only / Cause I know that our love’s so strong … Tell me all your dirty secrets / Tell me where you keep them hidden / I hope you do / I really hope you do.”

The video presents vintage background images from the ‘50s and ‘60s, a time when people were less apt to expose vulnerability, yet just as complicated by emotions.

“I Hope You Do” is superb, radiating a mesmerizing sonic aura. It’s one of those songs – once you hear it, you can’t get it out of your head.
