Magnolia Park - Vacant

From Orlando, Florida comes pop-punk outfit Magnolia Park. The band just released a new EP, entitled Vacant.

Magnolia Park

The human ingredients of the band are Joshua Roberts (vocals), Dylan Turner (bass, vocals), Cobus Ellis (drums, vocals), Tristan Torres (guitar), and Jack Stock (guitar). Magnolia Park’s sound blends “elements of hip-hop, pop-punk and emo” into infectiously attractive music.

There’s not much gen on the band. However, I did find an interesting podcast interview with the band on Stitcher.

Vacant comprises five-tracks, starting off with “October,” a nostalgic song about a former love, now lost. The track opens on softly gleaming tones topped by Roberts’ dulcet tenor, rich and mellifluous. When the rhythm enters, the tune takes on tender raw energy, low-slung yet potent. Multi-part vocal harmonies infuse the chorus with beaucoup depth and radiance.

“Why you have to be so beautiful / Couldn’t look you in the eye / Why you have to be so beautiful / Regretting leaving you behind.”

I love the polished lustrous guitars on this track, along with the vocal harmonies, and stellar drumming.

“Desperate” opens on rumbling drums and fierce guitars seguing to a gleaming melody taking on sporadic thrumming dynamics, as the wonderful vocals glide overhead, ranging from indulgent to tight penetrating timbres. A wailing/screaming voice adds a serrating edge to the backing harmonies.

“Pumpkin Eater” features a darkly gleaming intro, and then transitions to a velvety harmonic flow full of lustrous accents and Roberts’ delicious voice, clean and fresh. When the guitars ramp up, the tune assumes hefty flavors and thick glistening coloration.

“Patience” blends emo sonic filaments with smoothly stuttering pop-punk savors, delivering a gorgeous conglomeration of surging guitars and powerfully alluring vocals.

The final track, “Hangover Heaven,” travels on coruscating colors crowned by tight tormented vocals. I love the polished lustrous guitars on this track, along with the vocal harmonies, and stellar drumming.

Vacant delivers superior pop-punk, full of rolling streams of sonic textures, contagious rhythms, and marvelously arranged vocal harmonies from Magnolia Park.
