The genesis of “We Collided” occurred when David visited his friend Fred Eltringham in Nashville, where David bought a 1998 Martin guitar that galvanized his muse. After strumming the instrument for a few minutes, a song flooded forth. Sharing the music with his partner Marie Mai, she added the lyrics.

David explains, "'We Collided’s’ music came through me like a lightning bolt. It felt like an out of body experience.”

He goes on to add, “I understand inspiration can come from anything, might it be the time of day, the weather, the person in front of you, or the place you're traveling to. Being away from home, in a city that erupts with musical energy, made me feel free as a bird and unlocked this creative process. Only then did my music start pouring out of me like an unstopping force of nature. I felt at that moment that this was just the start of many ideas to come.”

Born into a musical family, music is part and parcel of David’s being. His father, Jacques Lafleche, was a music director, his mother, Helene Levasseur a singer, and his aunt, Gisele Mackenzie Lafleche, is a legendary Canadian singer from the '60s and '70s.

David’s rich, evocative voice imbues the lyrics with warm, quixotic colors.

When his father passed, David embarked on his own music career, studying at the Berklee College of Music’s summer camp. Once back home, he performed in local venues in Quebec, while his sound evolved. He then became a music director, working with artists like Vincent Vallières, Jeffrey Piton, and Marie-Mai, followed by scoring the film Starbuck.

Renowned as the music director for La Voix, as well as Canada Day and ADISQ, David is now setting off on a new voyage – singer-songwriter.

“We Collided” opens on a measured drum shuffle, followed by the entry of a gleaming, low-slung guitar. David’s rich, evocative voice imbues the lyrics with warm, quixotic colors. The undulating flow of the melody oozes delicious flavors of alt-country merged with gentle folk-pop coloration. A drawling pedal steel guitar infuses the music with rippling textures rife with aching sensitivity.

“Travelling places through the milky way / We collided / Leaving traces that won’t fade away / We collided, we collided.”

Beautifully wrought on haunting washes of sound, “We Collided” narrates the tale of life-changing love entering oh so unexpectedly.
