Beauty Queen - Out of Touch

L.A.’s Beauty Queen recently dropped a new EP, entitled Out of Touch, produced by “the ever chill Henry Nowhere.”

Beauty Queen is the musical offspring of Katie Iannitello, who describes the EP, “The Out of Touch EP brings to life what we all face at some point, a feeling that we've lost touch with ourselves. Although the lyrical content may be dim at some times, the instrumentation reminds us all that there is a balance, and that life is powerful and full of energy.”

According to Iannitello, “Beauty Queen is best listened to while smoking at the back end of the parking lot, while skipping 2nd period AP trig.”

Decked out with half-a-dozen tracks, the first track is “This Time Around,” which opens on a driving, lush melody, full of creamy penetrating resonance and Beauty Queen’s yummy voice, exuding luscious echoing depth and scintillating surfaces. I love the jangly cashmere flow of the guitars on this track, imbuing the harmonics with sparkling tints.

“Goner” rides glistening colors gliding on a potently pulsing rhythm, as the gorgeously alluring vocals skate gracefully overhead on burnished tones.

“Sold You Out” travels on bright keyboards flowing into a laid-back undulating dream-pop melody. Pale, gleaming accents give the music a soft brilliance both dreamy and affecting. Taut percussion and a plump throbbing bass line imbue the rhythm with a supple, elastic cadence. “The Only One” features shimmering guitars topped by Beauty Queen’s charming, ebullient voice, injecting the lyrics with buttery wonder.

“Goner” rides glistening colors gliding on a potently pulsing rhythm, as the gorgeously alluring vocals skate gracefully overhead on burnished tones. The mood and feel of the tune is one of declarative causality. Radiant background harmonies infuse the music with depth and dimension, expanding the song’s harmonic shape.

The title track features tingling hues and tender sonic colors supported by a delicious rhythm, from the crisp drums and vibrating bass line. Glittering-like-a-diamond harmonics infuse the tune with coruscating colors on dreamy filaments.

The final track, “Honest Again,” drifts on wistful colors, dripping with rolling sonic pressure.

Out Of Touch exudes misty washes of plush hues, captivating melodies, and intoxicating rhythms. Yet the highlight is Beauty Queen’s entrancing voice. Beauty Queen is another artist who has eluded the major labels for too long. She should be signed.
