Silver Lake 66 - Blue Earth County

Silver Lake 66 recently released “Blue Earth County,” a song from their forthcoming album, Ragged Heart, slated to drop April 5. And if you’re into what I call “the real McCoy” Americana music, then you’re in for a treat.

Inspired by the decision to move from the Midwest to So-Cal, the song encompasses the heady joy of whizzing down the highway in a 1973 convertible on the ultimate road trip.

Silver Lake 66 is hands down my favorite country/Americana duo because of their marvelous melodies and delicious vocals, ranging from potent tones full of galvanizing, infectious ebullience to tender, elegant timbres rife with tantalizing wisps of recollection, love, and home.

Made up of Maria Francis and Jeff Overbo, the duo initially got together in Minneapolis, followed by relocating to Los Angeles, where they fronted The Ruby Trees, performing at renowned venues like The World Famous Palomino Club, as well as joining Dale Watson, The Hellcasters, and Harry Dean Stanton on A Town South of Bakersfield, Volume 3.

This is a song that gets your hips moving and your foot tapping, rife with rollicking energy and authentic lyrics.

Later, they moved to Portland, Oregon, where the flourishing music scene stimulated their creative juices, giving birth to Silver Lake 66. In 2016, they dropped Let Go Or Be Dragged, hitting the 19th slot on Roots Music Report’s album chart, while the single “San Francisco Angel” held down the 18th position on the singles chart.

“Blue Earth County” opens on a scrumptiously rousing “Well I sat down and looked around,” flowing into a potently infectious country-laced tune riding a crisp, upbeat rhythm. A drawling steel guitar infuses the tune with lingering impetus and twangy flavors, as Overbo and Francis provide tasty, luminous harmonies.

This is a song that gets your hips moving and your foot tapping, rife with rollicking energy and authentic lyrics. Tight, gleaming harmonies and yummy guitars imbue the music with rolling, bouncy momentum.

Silver Lake 66 plays real music for real people, the kind who work 9 to 5 and form the backbone of American society. Maria Francis and Jeff Overbo have it going on in a big, big way.
