Frontman Dan Lamb says, "’Happy Sad’ is a song about finding solace in feeling happy whilst ultimately accepting you also must be sad, I wrote the song from the perspective of a third party seeing me cope with my moods during taking anti-depressants. Eventually I came to realize that living in a limbo state of happiness and sadness was not natural and I gradually took myself off of them and began to deal with my natural state.”

Since releasing their first EP, Louder Than Words, the band has toured throughout the UK, sharing the stage with big name bands like WSTR, For The Win, Woes, In Her Own Words, Homebound, and others, followed by signing with Standby Records.

“Happy Sad” opens on a tight guitar riffs, followed by surging gleaming guitars atop a potent rumbling beat with a pulsing bassline.

Formed in 2015, Victory Lane is made up of Dan Lamb, Dan Rowbottom, Lewis Crawley, and Dec Lawrence. They describe their sound as “Balancing catchy upbeat chorus hooks with gritty, emotional & meaningful verses, to create a roller-coaster experience for our listeners. We really want to take them on a journey, not knowing what to expect next.”

“Happy Sad” opens on a tight guitar riffs, followed by surging gleaming guitars atop a potent rumbling beat with a pulsing bassline. The initial verse, light and creamy, glows with radiant energy, while the chorus ramps up to ferocious pop-punk flavors crowned by Lamb’s deliciously inflected tenor backed by cool stylish harmonies.

The video mingles images of the band playing with a young man seated on a couch at a party, constantly popping pills. His face mirrors a variety of emotions, ranging between ebullient to severely sad. In the end, he conquers his dependence on medication and comes to terms with his emotional swings, as he realizes no one is continuously happy or sad.

“Happy Sad” is superb, clean and crisp, the way pop-punk should be, while delivering hefty harmonics, an infectious rhythm, and tasty vocals.
