Foliage is the musical project of 20-year-oldd Manuel Joseph Walker, who creates dazzling jangle-pop from his bedroom studio. Walker’s previous releases include Truths, Silence, and 2018’s III, all of which garnered vast praise from critics and fans.
Walker, a Mexican-American artist, does it all, composes, sings, plays all the instruments, and performs all the engineering. Foliage’s genesis occurred when Walker was 16-years-old and still in high school. Starting out as a novice DIY-er, Walker soon blossomed into a global wizard of bedroom pop. Influenced by producers J Dilla and Nujabes, Walker has established his own unique sound, a sound blending ‘80s guitar pop and enchanting rhythms.
“Pattern” opens on compact metallic percussion flowing into initially austere sonic coloration that expands into vibrant jangle-pop resonance. Jangly guitar flavors imbue the tune with subtle coruscating colors, as the pulsing rhythm undulates atop a fat round bass line and the innovative snapping sound of the beat.

The flow of Walker’s alluringly mellow voice, velvety smooth and tantalizing, infuses the tune with dreamy, creamy delicious bouquets of tones. It’s a wonderfully buttery voice, full of silky surface timbres that are intoxicating.
The stylish lyrics depict the pattern of synaptic texturization we all fall into if not careful.
“I fall into that pattern of self-abuse / To chase those thoughts that linger that aren't true/ How am I to find? / The right method to confide? / In myself? / I fall for lies my brain choose / With my frail mind / I seek to find who's by my side / Take time, analyze / I can never move forward if I don't try.”
Gleaming harmonics, along with Walker’s scrumptiously elegant voice make “Pattern” a marvelously evocative tune. Some label needs to sign Foliage to a contract. This is spectacularly well-wrought jangle-pop.
