The Best Music Podcast Is About R.E.M.

The world of music criticism can be a self-serious affair. Hey, I get it. You care about music and want to give it the respect you feel it deserves. However, there is room for fun in the world of talking about the music we love (and sometimes do not love). In fact, there is even room for a couple of guys to make a bunch of dumb jokes while barely talking about music at all. This is obviously not a hypothetical scenario, because what would be the point of that? I'm talking about R U Talkin' R.E.M. Re: Me?, the best music podcast out there.

Now, if you are a podcast person at all, you may be familiar with this podcast with a lengthy name. Or perhaps you heard about its predecessor, U Talkin' U2 to Me? Regardless, if you care about R.E.M. at all, but don't feel they deserve total reverence, you should definitely check it out. Go back to the beginning. Give it a whirl. You won't regret it.

The show is hosted by Adam Scott, an actor you may know as Ben Wyatt from Parks and Recreation or as the douchebag brother from Step Brothers, and Scott Aukerman, who had a cult TV show called Comedy Bang! Bang! for a few years, and he still has a hilarious podcast of the same name. I've been on board since the beginning, when it was a U2 show. How do you know it was good? I don't even like U2. I don't like their music. I still listened to every episode of U Talkin' U2 to Me?, and I eagerly anticipated every time a new one would drop. Now that it is an R.E.M. podcast, though, it's even better, since R.E.M. is actually a good band.

Still, it's not about the music. The two Scotts spend probably 80% of every episode bullshitting and joking around. They love a good bit and indulging in anti-humor. It's hard to believe how silly it can be. It's also super funny. When they do talk about R.E.M, though, it's clear they are huge fans, and can actually do some decent music criticism. The dynamic has changed a bit in the new show, as Adam Scott is a massive R.E.M. fan while Scott Aukerman has entire albums he never listened to, but the chemistry remains.

What I'm trying to say, to get to the point, is that you should listen to R U Talkin' R.E.M. Re: Me?, the quintessential C+ podcast.
