Initially, “Blossoms” began as a love song, celebrating the elevating thrill and passion of feeling between two people. Yet the song took on supplementary implications with the advent of coronavirus and subsequent isolation.

For the video, the band assembled fans, friends, family, and other musicians from around the globe, generating stream-of-consciousness visuals from daily life in quarantine. They compiled and edited raw footage of people playing, dancing, working, eating, skating, and making masks into an articulate sequence of images demonstrating emotional connection even while being apart from each other as OK Mayday performs the song via Zoom.

OK Mayday is made up of brothers, David, and Kelly Bollman, along with Stephen Lee, and Matthew Osborn, whose collective sound blends elements of alt-pop, synth-pop, and shoegaze into smooth, glowing brews. In fact, their ability to create alluring music led to them becoming in-demand songwriters with credits including J. Cole’s “Sparks Will Fly,” featuring Jhene Aiko, along with grabbing the ears of producer Harmony Samuels (Maroon 5, Fifth Harmony, Chris Brown), who signed OK Mayday to his B.O.E. Global Music Group.

A deluxe falsetto, warm and intoxicating, infuses the lyrics with cashmere timbres gliding on silky filaments.

“Blossom” opens on low-slung suffusions of sparkling colors flowing into a lusciously flavored creamy pop melody rife with velvety textures of dream-pop. A deluxe falsetto, warm and intoxicating, infuses the lyrics with cashmere timbres gliding on silky filaments. Ethereal, haunting harmonies imbue the song with lustrous tints of sonic pigments, sliding on ozone smelling mists projecting soft residual energy.

“It might take some time / Put your hand inside of mine / Blossoms when it’s right / We’ve got all this time / You still love me like I love you / And you still love me like I love you.”

Like the delicious harmonic flow of the music, the visuals of the video radiate the warmth and contentment found in the glorious sensation engendered by the mysterious miracle of love.

With “Blossoms,” OK Mayday fuses delectable washes of honeyed aroma, superb vocals, and a captivating rhythm into a cap-a-pie tantalizing song.
