Meet MaisonClose, France’s angry alt-rock outfit, who recently released the music video for “En File Indigne,” which translates to “in indignant file.”

The song is from MaisonClose’s forthcoming album, Erreur Système, slated to drop April 5. The album comprises 12-tracks. Each track corresponds to one of the 12 months of the year 2017, when the MaisonClose wrote the songs, and recorded the tracks in 2018.

The band summarizes the musical narrative of Erreur Système, “System Error,” saying, "We need a stroke of brilliance, no hard knocks, or low blows, heartbeats, madness, beating brilliance."

Formed in 2014 by Mr. Claude (vocals, guitar) and Harry Mata (guitar), the band’s new lineup includes the talents of Fab (drums), and Thomas (bass.) MaisonClose’s sound blends visceral alt-rock with hard-nosed lyricism, providing a biting overview of the world-at-large through assertive declarations.

MaisonClose dropped two previous EPs, Enter Free, in 2016, followed by Passwords, in 2017.

There’s almost a punk punch to the verses, followed by melodic gleaming colors on the chorus, but always with a metallic undertone.

“En File Indigne” opens on potently raw guitars atop a tight, brawny groove provided by crunching percussion and buff bass line. The feel and mood of the music is dark, wickedly muscular, edgy, and angry. Suffused with Café Bertrand energy, the harmonics cut through the atmosphere like a fingernail slicing through paper.

Mr. Claude’s voice, ferocious and snarling, sneers out each and every word with precise articulation. These are the tones of a man with something to say, and he’s not holding anything back.

There’s almost a punk punch to the verses, followed by melodic gleaming colors on the chorus, but always with a metallic undertone.

The video, shot in black and white, features Ridley Scott-like interplay of dark and light, as the band, dressed in dark colors, except for Mr. Claude’s white overcoat, plays their instruments with flint-like faces; except, of course, for Mr. Claude, whose facial gestures indicate a kind of Cruella de Ville venom, as he sings with intense energy.

“En File Indigne” delivers dark, cutting sonic tones, along with consummate musicianship and Mr. Claude’s deliciously caustic vocals.
