Neo-soul hip-hop artist Prince The Rookie launched a new music video a few hours ago, called “Legends Never Die.” It’s from his latest mixtape, Talent Don’t Sell, which recently dropped. And it's dope.

Originally from St. Louis, Prince The Rookie is currently based in Tampa, Florida. A descendant of the Nigerian Royal Family, Olateru-Olagbegi of Owo, the traditional ruler of Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria, Prince’s sound amalgamates velvety soul savors with the brawniness of Southern hip-hop and the flexible tempos of Midwest bounce.
“Legends Never Die” opens on sparkling synths, followed by the smooth deeper tones of TwinLlmaz. A few bars later, Prince enters with his creamy melodic flow. The juxtaposition of TwinLlamaz’s rapid spitting flow against Prince’s mellow soulful euphony infuses the tune with two distinct but complementary flows.

Rounded reverberation, measured cadence, and a pumping, thumping rhythm give the tune a crisp, muscular sonic pattern. The feel of the song is creamy yet skintight, as gleaming colors from the synths and piano ride over the low-slung trap oomph.
The video, directed by KiddFresh, narrates the story of a young boy growing being sucked into the drug world by suppliers, who appeal to his human need for connection, companionship, and inclusion. It’s a world beset by tension, skirmishes, and violent clashes. Eventually a blazing gun kills one of the suppliers. As years pass, the young boy grows to manhood, yet remains in the game, still hanging out in front of the same building with the same gangsters.
