Tami T - High-Pitched and Moist

Sweden’s Tami T recently dropped a new album, High-Pitched and Moist, a collection of 15-tracks of delicious pop/dream-pop/EDM-lite music.

A few years back, Tami T was in Gothenburg working in a factory. In her mid-twenties at the time, she had once upon a time played with skater punk bands, followed by acquiring production skills. Then for whatever reason, she dropped out of music. Later, again for unknown reasons, she up and moved to Leipzig, Germany, where started writing music, releasing electro-pop tunes under the moniker of Tami Tamaki.

Another move, this time to Berlin, where she continued to churn out radiant pop music flavored with elements of EDM, house, and trance music. Famous for her visceral lyrics, Tami T pulls no punches, getting straight to the point. In other words, she says what she means and means what she says.

The album opens with “Birthday,” riding chiming sounds topped by Tami T’s elfin-like voice, clear and graceful. As the song proceeds, it adds oozing synth colors and compact percussion. Even though it comes across as some kind of nursery rhyme pop tune, it’s quite excellent.

It’s Tami T’s voice that makes the tune work, light and airy, but simultaneously enchanting.

“So Afraid” opens on trembling synths and a pumping kick drum, as Tami T’s yummy glass-like tones flow overhead. There’s just a hint, albeit a small one, of EDM momentum to the music. “Face Riding” ramps up to authentic EDM levels, featuring a contagious groove with an austere matrix of colors overhead. The colors brighten and swell, taking on vibrant energy.

“Stay Where You Are” is probably my favorite track, riding a rolling, creamy dream-pop surface punctuated by trilling exotic hues. It’s Tami T’s voice that makes the tune work, light and airy, but simultaneously enchanting.

Another marvelous track is “Disgusted,” which exudes laces of dream-pop amalgamated with velvety textures of cashmere electro-pop.

High-Pitched and Moist is almost cerebrally soft, but glimmers with palpable flowing textures and the delightful tones of Tami T.
