Starbenders - Never Lie 2 Me
Glitter punk outfit Starbenders just dropped a new single, called “Never Lie 2 Me.” And it’s excellent.

The track is from Starbender's forthcoming EP, Japanese Rooms,” slated to drop April 19. Co-written by Kimi Shelter and Tommy Kafafian, “Never Lie 2 Me” depicts longing and liberation atop mesmerizing, haunting tones.
The formation of Starbenders came about when Kimi Shelter began working with producer Nico Constantine, who encouraged her to start a band. Heeding the advice, Shelter called long-time friend Aaron Lecesne. Guitarist Kris Tokaji joined up after the other members of the band heard him shredding a guitar at a party.
"We couldn't believe our ears and eyes! Our prayers had been answered!” says Shelter.
Shelter’s superb voice is vaguely reminiscent of Pat Benatar, Chrissy Hynde, and Gwen Stefani, with the boho femme fatale timbres of Angel Deradoorian mixed in for good measure.
The final piece of the musical puzzle fell into place when Lecesne came across drummer Emily Moon’s ad on Craigslist. Moon jammed with the band that very night. The rest is history, including the fact tha the Starbenders shared the stage with Alice In Chains in 2018, and will be touring Japan for the second time beginning April 25. What’s more is that Shelter and Moon will appear on six episodes of Paradise City, the television spin-off of the movie American Satan.
“Never Lie 2 Me” opens on with Shelter’s intoxicating voice flowing into a dreamy, dark-flavored electro-pop/glitter punk melody full of undulating hues and streaming synths. The buff rhythm is infectious as all get-out, pulsing with wicked throbbing energy.

It’s creamy, redolent with tumescent sensual hues, and deliciously alluring. Elusive background harmonies invest Shelter’s fabulous tones with subtle gossamer echoes.
“Never Lie 2 Me” is off-the-chain superb. Smoldering colors surge and waft with cool momentum, as Shelter’s yummy voice leads the way.
