Bambies

Made up of an eclectic trio of musicians, of whom one is from Costa Rica, another is from France, and the third is from Canada, the band formed in 2015 and is made up of Sami, Feli, and Frank. Their sound rotates around guitar-driven pop-infused punk, aka pop-punk. According to Just Some Punk Songs, their music is influenced by Mean Jeans, a pop-punk trio from Portland, Oregon.

On their Facebook page, the Bambies state they are going to be recording a full-length album this year. Hopefully, they’re already in the studio laying down tracks.

The first track is called “REd GuiTar,” and opens on a vicious snare roll and grinding, dirty guitars flowing into a feel-good pop-punk melody topped by delicious quasi-bubble-gum pop vocals backed by “oooh” harmonies. The lyrics, delivered with machine-gun rapidity, infuse the song with a tight resonance.

Sneering, Apple-polishing vocals infuse the lyrics with sarcastic textures.

“Black hANds” rides thick guitar riffs and pummeling percussion. A lacuna-like breakdown with lingering feedback provides a dormant stop, before ramping back up. “BEAT up” opens on jagged intermittent riffs, followed by a hefty pop on the snare introducing wall-of-sound guitars. Sneering, Apple-polishing vocals infuse the lyrics with sarcastic textures.

“EcHo” features a throbbing head-banging punk melody toned down just a bit with pop filaments, imbuing the tune with infectious colors and careening impetus. I love the snarling, grimacing accents from the guitars, as well as the Van Halen-like guitar solo, full of stretched-out searing flavors.

“HouSE Boy” rides muffled guitars, as if recorded in ultra-lo-fi, imbuing the tune with body-hugging gritty harmonics. “Blazing Bird” travels on a retro-punk-flavored melody, akin to the punk version of an old Herman and The Hermits song. Tinny guitars radiating shimmering tones and high-pitched “oooh ooh” harmonies rivet the harmonics with a scrumptious slapdash aura.

Cassette delivers infectious flavors of bubble-gum pop, pop-punk, and hardcore punk into brisk, innovative tunes. Imagine Weezer covering The Offspring and you have the general idea. It’s good stuff!
