Not long ago, like last week, SoCal premier alt-rock outfit Love Ghost released a new single, entitled “Anime Trap Queen.”

Setting aside their alt-rock sound for reverb-heavy emo-trap, Love Ghost’s Finnegan Bell, aka Finn, struts his excessive talent and his tight, expressive voice.

The band consists of Finnegan Bell (lead vocals, guitar), Ryan Stevens (bass, vocals), Samson Young (drums, vocals), Daniel Alcala (guitar), and Cory Batchler (keyboards). With renowned producer Danny Saber, at the present juncture, Finn et al are putting the finishing touches on their debut album.

Prior to the coronavirus lockdown, Love Ghost toured Ireland and Japan, and played Festivalfff in Ecuador, along with amassing a tone of kudos for their music videos. Love Ghost has shared the stage with Mundy, Fuel, The Tubes, The Young Dubliners, Smash Mouth, Berlin, and Buckcherry.

Simple, austere, and grandly suggestive, “Anime Trap Queen” throbs with a kind of voluptuous suffering, simultaneously bringing comfort and opening up new emotional wounds.

The band made major waves last year when they released “Let It All Burn,” a four-on-the-floor dynamic alt-rock number, featuring growling guitars and Finn’s snarling, badass voice.

“Anime Trap Queen” opens on sleazy, spectral-flavored colors topped by Finn’s searing nasal voice riding wavering timbres. A low-slung, ominous-laced pulsing kick-drum and crisp sidestick imbue the measured rhythm with passionate urgency, as Finn narrates a quixotic tale of struggle, reprisal, and ultimate triumph over condemnation and false impressions.

“'Cuz my soul is damned / So, I'll blow my brains, let it go, bam bam / Imma rockstar, jamming with my band / And I let, these fuckers know, that I'm the man / And they hate to see you winning, so please expand / I understand / Please, hold my hand, Aye.”

Simple, austere, and grandly suggestive, “Anime Trap Queen” throbs with a kind of voluptuous suffering, simultaneously bringing comfort and opening up new emotional wounds.

With “Anime Trap Queen,” Love Ghost delivers the purview of avoiding what the eyes see and perceiving solely through the heart.
