Meet Double Dog Dare, a pop-punk/easycore outfit hailing from Kansas City, Missouri. The band just dropped their EP, called Bite Back. And it's lit!

Double Dog Dare is made up of Makk Zwell (vocals, brass), Bret (drums), Jake (guitar), Hunter (bass), Noah (guitar), and the band is billed as “just five punk rock pooches from KC playing every flavor of punk they can get their paws on! From angst-ridden emo tracks to high-energy easycore bangers, or even the occasional ska or shoegaze song.”

Containing five tracks, the last track, “EZ Duz It,” one of my faves, opens on tight sizzling guitars moving into a heavy resonance traveling on a contagious pop-punk melody. The rhythm is tight and right and deliciously captivating. Zwell’s voice, vibrant and evocative, carries just the right amount of punk frisson. Growling metalcore-like background voices, along with bright shouts infuse the tune with resounding depth.

Now for the first track, “If We Don’t,” another tasty pop-punk tune full of gleaming guitars exuding layers of bright and heavy colors. On the chorus, a thick wall-of-sound washes forth from the combined harmonics, filling the tune with infectious impetus. A shimmering breakdown shifts the harmonics to glistening hues, and then mousses back up to hefty levels.

“Public Enemy” opens on a slapping bass transitioning into a chunky pop-punk number with stellar drumming and rousing guitars. A blend of skater-punk and riot-esque flavors gives the tune a choppy allure, as Zwell’s marvelous voice imbues the tune with aromas of Green Day bouquets.

“Seven Years” travels on luminously thick guitars, lacing the tune with brilliant hues and a rolling harmonic flow. “Autopilot” features a seething intro composed of industrially iridescent guitar riffs. Full of emo-flavors and tinges of punk-lite textures, the tune undulates and spills with sparkling pigments.

On Bite Back, Double Dog Dare offers up grand, strapping pop-punk you can sink your teeth into. Some label needs to sign this band. They’re excellent!
