Bananach - Wasted Demo

Whoohoo! This band – Bananach – lights it up on their recently released demo, called Wasted.

Bananach

Bananach

From Bandung, Indonesia, Bananach is “a heavy, fuzz-driven, punk rock trio.” Formed in 2014, the band began as a quartet, but after some lineup changes, is now a trio made up of Karina Sokowati (vocals), Mojann Ayu (guitar), and Fay Murray (drums), along with guest appearances by Aznina on lead guitar and Alikbal Rusyad on bass.

With two tracks, “Aphrodites” and “Dusty Spaces,” the band’s nuclear-powered sound blends incandescent garage rock with bad-ass punk riffs akin to Joy Division and Sonic Youth. It’s a rough and ready sound with raw dominant energy delivering a mega-punch to the solar plexus.

“Aphrodites” disses young women enslaved by brand name material goods and rabid consumption of anything bearing the right label. The track opens on walloping drums topped by thrumming guitars and a bass line straight from the bowels of hell, thick and heavy and throbbing.

Karina’s femme fatale voice infuses the lyrics with ferocious riot grrrl flavors, ripping and slicing the air like one of Cruella De Vil’s painted fingernails. It’s a hard-hitting voice laced with dripping venomous timbres and beau coup attitude.

A scorching guitar lick blazes in the backdrop, as Karina’s tiger-like voice cuts through like a buzzsaw that’s pissed-off.

The lyrics to “Aphrodites” grant no quarter.

“Hey, Leech! / What is the point of being the stupidest aphrodites of all? / Bewitching mass with your pretty faces / Up you go, being pretty / Lady-like women with frienemies / Are you sure that’s living life? / Where are the brains go? / Really, darling? / Where are the brains go? / Did you put it in your Givenchy purse?”

“Dusty Spaces” rides a searing guitar intro seguing into dark, pulsing savors of slashing intensity. The rhythm pounds and gyrates with rumbling patterns throwing off muscular momentum. A scorching guitar lick blazes in the backdrop, as Karina’s tiger-like voice cuts through like a buzzsaw that’s pissed-off. Reckless dynamism is an understatement when it comes to Bananach’s pulverizing sonic energy.

Double bing bang hell! Bananach demonstrate what punk rock is all about – impudent energy and nasty attitudes. Would some label please sign this band, for goodness sake?!
