According to Birla, “'Blackout' is all about taking a step back from the relentless pace of the modern world. It took me a while, but I’ve realized that life isn’t about racing to the finish line, it’s about savoring every step of the journey.”

Teaming up with Birla on the song are two celebrated artists from Nigeria: the rapper known as Vector, and WurlD, an electro-fusion musician.

Explaining the song’s inspiration, Birla says, “I had always wanted to incorporate rap and hip hop into one of my songs, and it was awesome to work with Vector and WurlD on this. I’m a big believer that music is the ultimate global language and collaborating with artists from all over the world is a big part of that.”

Birla exploded onto the music scene in 2017, with her songs piling up more than 150 million streams, allowing Birla to hit platinum status in her native country of India.

“Blackout” rides a compelling trap groove full of pop savors, as Birla’s scrumptiously buttery tones glide overhead. Glowing background harmonies infuse the harmonics with luminous scope. The entry of the rappers imbues the track with superlative flow, tight and right.

“I wake up and I feel a little heavy / Demons in my mind they speaking I hear them clearly / Echoin’ all the negative developin’ the pictures of the horror that I picture in my mind frame / I’m saying I just need a breather / Get back to loving me cause I haven’t been breathing.”

“Blackout” is a superb song, delivering the cool, stylish melodicism of Ananya, along with the skintight rapping tones of WurlD and Vector.
