One High Five’s founder, David Sauer, explains, “Initially, I didn’t want to mention past band members, but it’s part of my story. Continuing lineup changes have left me feeling vulnerable with a warped sense of trust in myself. I am trying to refocus my journey and be a positive source of inspiration to myself and others. Sadly, I think a lot of people can relate to wanting to be free of the need of approval from others and the self-doubt that prohibits them from moving forward.”

Based in Long Beach, CA, One High Five previously released their debut album, followed by a number of singles, appearing on compilation discs, films, and commercials, as well as performing at CMJ and Broke LA.

Featuring a dozen tracks, Beardlip begins with “C’mon,” featuring a rousing pop-punk rhythm, a braying organ, sizzling guitars, and beau coup oomph. Entry points on the album include “Fast Food,” a galvanizing indie-rock tune rife with tasty pop-punk undertones and almost burlesque accents, infusing the tune with tight infectious energy.

The organ glows with nuclear frisson on the chorus, as radiant harmonies travel overhead.

“Bones Of My Ancestors” blends savors of pop-punk with new wave flavors, delivering a gleaming melody flowing on a driving rhythm highlighted by a wonderfully oozing organ. “Animal Urges” travels on a rockabilly-flavored melody full of glistening jangly guitars exuding new wave pop surges of color.

“Out on the Dance Floor” thrums with deliciously percolating pop-punk dynamics, pervaded by a rumbling rhythm custom-made for getting up and turning it loose. “Fear of Failure” travels on grinding guitars full of brilliant tones as Sauer’s taut angst-laced tones provide just the right punk intonations. A snarling breakdown shifts the harmonics with tantalizing riffs.

“You and I Were Made Excited” rides a rolling reeling melody chock-full of deep droning tones, accented by the glossy sheens of texture from the wonderful organ. There’s a dark energy emanating from the harmonics, giving the tune a slightly ominous and risky feel.

“She’s On Arrival” opens on taut growling guitars delivering abrading colors and punk punch. The organ glows with nuclear frisson on the chorus, as radiant harmonies travel overhead.

With Beardlip, One High Five pushes out scrumptious pop-punk-laced music replete with exuberance and delightful vocal momentum.
