Originally from New York, Jesse released Trap Harmony and Purple Wave, two full-length LPs that put him on the map. The two LPs were recorded and released while he was at the University of Tampa. Then he caused tremors in the hip-hop firmament by collaborating with Kontraversy and Famous Dex.

Both Kfedey and Da Last Phoenix hail from Brooklyn. On his part, Da Last Phoenix conjures up a cashmere amalgamation of drill aromas merged with cool R&B tangs. The result is a sound simultaneously intimate and voluptuously sumptuous.

Kfedey calls his sound “real rap,” radiating warm, effervescent emo-trap coloration and diverse flavors of hip-hop.

The three artists – Jesse Eplan, Da Last Phoenix, and Kfedey – seem destined to harmonize, simply because their voices mirror each other perfectly.

Laced with suave surfaces of pop, rap, and R&B coalescing into rippling, viscous layers, “Ecstasy” rolls out on undulating, smoldering hues, projecting a scrumptious movement that’s undeniably erotic. I love the rhythm on this track, thick and gooey, with a muscular pulsing thread that’s so supple it shivers as it swells. The snap, crackle, and pop of the snare accentuate the Jovian throb of the slapping bassline.

The video shows a hip-hop group arriving at their hotel, along with their manager, who is constantly over-managing. When an assembly of beautiful young women shows up, the manager’s nagging about taking things “seriously” goes out the window.

“Ecstasy” is definitely one of the best emo-trap songs of the year so far. Jesse Eplan has it going on and has a knack for superb production.
